Holiday Party Time
One of the best things we get to do in December is entertaining at holiday parties. Last weekend we played for a small party of wonderful folks who really enjoy their Christmas traditions. The booking agent had advised us that the client wanted no Christmas music. The opposite was true. They wanted all Christmas music and they were very interactive. We quickly switched on our Christmas repertoire!

Only a small group was required, so I had June Dunaphant on keyboards and Denton on guitar. June knows a million songs, transposes on the fly, is a great singer, and always a joy on the gig. Denton was charming with his Dean Martin style "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm." The party folks improvised with their own lyrics on some songs and were great.

This weekend we have another corporate event for a company that was on our calendar last year. These folks were incredibly nice and we look forward to seeing them again.  Last year it was just Dave Ellington and I entertaining. This time I'll have Denton, Omar Martinez and Dave Ellington with me there.  Oh, yeah, baby. We're bringin' it on and they better be ready!

Live music would make your party even more fabulous. Wouldn't your guests rather hear live music, and sing along if they feel like it, instead of the same old CD's?

You know they would!  Send an e-mail! We're affordable, professional, and fun!

Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to my first blog entry.
We all have so many reasons to be thankful. My husband, Denton, who makes my dreams come true. I love my furry children, my musicians, my good friends and good books. More magazines are publishing my work and I'm ready to get on with my CD. (The 4th CD that I've been on, the 2nd that is just my band.)
Still, I had some terribly sad news today. My beloved friend Anita O'Day passed away in her sleep last night.  I had been looking on every site for cheap airfare lately to go to LA to visit, but couldn't afford it now. If I only had known.  Surely everyone reading this has had that feeling at least once. We just never know how much time we have with those we love.
Anita was a great singer with an incredible life story. Her autobiography, "High Times, Hard Times," is well written and tells her story without apology. As a young girl she sang in bands led by Gene Krupa, Stan Kenton and Benny Goodman.
The Jennifer Perry Combo is going to play at Fernbank's Martini's & IMAX tomorrow - Nov. 24 - and we'll be doing a lot of her best tunes in tribute. Please join us if you're in town.
